Each year during the Academy Awards, a montage of photos is shown of those who passed away since the previous Oscar ceremony. Two of those photos in 2023 will mourn Angela Lansbury and Louise Fletcher.

People have a fascination with horror movies and psychological thrillers. The psychological rationales vary, but primal fears trigger adrenaline, endorphins, and dopamine. Women have contributed to some of the highest-ranked movies of all time in these genres.

Five quarters memorializing women are being launched each year beginning in 2022 and continuing through 2025. The honorees for 2022 include Maya Angelou, Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, and Adeline Otero-Warren. The fifth quarter in the American Women Quarters program which began shipping in late October 2022 features Anna May Wong.

When the movies started in the late 1800s, there was no sound; hence the name – the silent film era. Actresses who worked in the movies at the time portrayed emotions and feelings without voices.

Although we may think that it takes many years to hone one’s craft as an actress and thus that most Oscar acting nominees and winners are what we might call “seasoned,” it is not only the seasoned actresses that are nominated for and win Oscars.

Twenty-five more films were added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2021. The oldest was produced in 1902 and the newest in 2008. In this newsletter, we profile women from Hollywood: Her Story associated with seven of those films, which are selected based on historical, cultural, and aesthetic contributions.

In June of 2022, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated seventy years as the Queen of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. We thought this would be a great reason to highlight films featuring Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, and other royalty.
